Welcome To New You Dance Cymru
NYD Cymru is a friendly, supportive and inclusive dance school situated in Bridgend. We provide enthusiastic classes using a range of teaching techniques to suit the individual’s needs.
We offer classes for children and adults. The children’s lessons are structured and are based on both age and ability. Our wide range of adult classes may be mixed ability or based on the IDTA grading syllabus.
NYD Cymru was formed by Nikki Coburn in late 2016. Our school focuses on exams, where we have a 100% pass rate and all students obtaining a Merit or Distinction, and performances (we have an annual show in Bridgend College). In 2023, NYD Cymru expanded even more by adding a GCSE Dance class to students entering into year 9. In 2022, we became the first dance school in Bridgend to hold AUTISM AWARE ORGANISATIONAL STATUS! We keep our classes small, and are inclusive of all.
Nikki is now studying a Dance Medicine course with Phillip Cutts School of Dance and Sports Medicine to ensure that our students are trained safely.

Our Key Values
Nikki has been teaching Ballet and Tap for over 10 years for different dance schools and has a 100% pass rate for exams that her pupils take. Since the beginning of her teaching career, Nikki knew that she wanted her school to be different. As the school has grown, the classes are still friendly with everyone feeling welcome. These are down to our key values:
- KINDNESS – Our school is based on being kind to each other and treating others as you would like to be treated. We support each other and help you to achieve your goals.
- EQUALITY – At NYD Cymru we treat everyone as equals, we are an inclusive school and have students with many additional needs. We accept people for who they are.
- HONESTY – Our teachers are honest, yet sensitive in their approach. We encourage students and their families to be honest with our staff and come to us with any concerns or queries they may have.
- SUPPORT – We make sure to support every student and their families in any way we can. If you’ve got a dream, we will do our best to help you achieve it.
In 2022 NYD Cymru became the first dance school in Bridgend to gain Autism Aware Organisation Status from Autism Wales.
As well as our key values, Nikki likes to ensure that students use safe dance technique, so as to prevent injury in the future. In 2017 Nikki completed a course with PBT Europe where she gained a qualification enabling her to teach Progressing Ballet Technique. This course helps students improve their Ballet technique by using exercise balls, resistance bands and small balls. The improvement seen by doing these sessions is phenomenal.
Nikki is now studying Dance medicine with the Phillip Cutts School of Dance and Sports Medicine as the safety of our students is paramount to her.
